Confirm addresses before gifts ship
Ask recipients to check their delivery address on their gift page before the store ships. Changes go to the store to approve and apply, and the full address stays private.
Catch a wrong address while it is still free to fix
People move, change offices, and work from home. Once a gift ships to an old address, fixing it means a carrier redirect or a reship. Before it ships, it means changing one line on the order.
GiftDesk lets the gift team ask recipients to check their address on the gift page, and routes any change to the store to apply.
Part of Delivery health.
Turn it on (gift team, Pro)
On the shared desk, open Recipient branding and tick Ask recipients to confirm their address before shipping. It is off by default and set per campaign.
Pick the wording recipients see:
- Confirm delivery details: keeps the surprise.
- Where should we send your gift?: for gifts the recipient already expects.
On Starter the setting is locked and reads "Address checks are on Pro".
Ask recipients (gift team)
GiftDesk never asks on its own. You choose when:
- Everyone at once: on the desk home, Ask to confirm address asks every recipient in the current table view whose order has not shipped and who has not been asked yet. The button shows how many.
- One recipient: on the order page, Ask to confirm address.
Each recipient gets one email, sent in your team's name and never the store's. It links to their gift page and gives a reply-by date. The recipient needs an email address on the order.
The reply window is 72 hours, but it always closes at least a day before the order's ship-by date, so an address check never makes a gift late. If there is not enough time left before the ship-by date, GiftDesk skips that recipient. The store can change the reply-by date for one order, but not past its ship-by date.
What the recipient sees
While the order has not shipped, their gift page shows a card with a partly hidden address: the house number, then the town, region, and country. For example "12 •••, Portland, OR, US". The full street never appears on the page.
- That's right confirms it. The gift ships to the address on file.
- Update address opens a short form. They send the new address, and the page thanks them. They can correct it again if they made a mistake.
The form may suggest adding a unit number or double-checking a postcode (for the US, UK, Canada, and Australia). These are hints only and never block the update.
If the reply-by date passes with no answer, the card goes away and the gift ships to the address on file.
What the gift team sees
- Badges on unshipped orders: Address: asked, confirmed, change requested, updated, or no reply.
- Awaiting address tile: appears while any check is open. Click it to filter the table.
- Order page: where the check stands and the reply-by date. Ask again appears when a check got no reply.
The gift team never sees the new address. They see that a change was requested, and when the store applies it, the ticket on that order is resolved with "Address updated".
Approve and apply the change (store)
A change request shows up in the store's tickets as Address change to approve. On the order page in GiftDesk, a table compares the Current shipping address on the Shopify order with the New one, field by field.
Click Apply to order to update the Shopify order's shipping address. The order's name, company, and phone number stay as they are. If Shopify rejects the address, GiftDesk shows Shopify's message and changes nothing.
Once the order has shipped, or fulfilment has started in Shopify, the change can no longer be applied. Ask the carrier to redirect the parcel instead.
While a check is open, the store also sees it on the order page with the reply-by date and a Change reply-by date option.
What each plan includes
Address checks are on Pro, Plus, and the 14-day trial. On Starter, the setting is locked and the gift team cannot send asks.
Privacy
- The gift page never shows the full address on file.
- The new address is visible only to the store, on the order page. It never appears in ticket messages and the gift team never sees it.
- The email to the recipient is always in the gift team's voice.
